When using social media for network marketing, you want to keep in mind that not all conversations are created equal. There are in fact proven phrases, and topics of conversation that have proven to create a much bigger response and in turn more leads and sign ups for your network marketing business.

Here are some great magnetic conversation topics that will draw people to you:

1. Family- talk about having more time to spend with them. Ask people what they would do if they had more family time?

2. Occupation- Ask people what they do for a living and do they really enjoy it? The sad truth is that many people don’t, and this can give you the opportunity to find out if they are open to considering your business opportunity.

3. Recreation- share what you enjoy doing for hobbies and in your spare time and ask others about theirs? Share how your business gives you more time and money to do the things you enjoy doing.

4. Money- share topics and questions related to money but avoid telling people how much money you are making, pictures of checks and other similar activities. You also want to avoid hype and income claims.

5. Leadership- share things that show you are a leader and that you are training others to become leaders.

6. Current events that relate to your business. Share topics and ask questions related to your main company industry.

The biggest mistake that a lot of online network marketers make is that they fail to take their relationships that they start online offline. This is crucial to your success. However, sometimes people don’t know how to do it successfully. Here are some ideas to make it work.

1. Develop a strong online local network. Then invite anyone who is local to you to meet one on one or to attend a class, party or other event.

2. Use skype to connect via video calling and “face to face” with people. This is underused and a great tool.

3. Ask to talk on the phone with people as soon as you feel comfortable. Not everyone will agree right away but you need to do it at some point.

4. Schedule free consultations that require you to connect via phone or in person.

5. Offer bonuses for people who agree to meet you offline.

6. Host an offline event and invite everyone you know from online to attend.

7. When someone you know online is visiting in your area, invite them to meet in person. When you are traveling seek out friends from the internet who live in the area and ask to meet.

What do you really need in order for online network marketing to work for you?

1. A company or product based recruiting website. In many cases, the company will offer one for a small monthly fee or some of the teams within the company will have one. Ideally you want one that offers people the chance to opt-in via email and to receive a series of messages about your company and products. This is usually not the same website as the replicated one you get when you join.

2. Your own auto responder. You want your own email program so that you can send out things such as team newsletters, customer specials and build your own email list that you own and control and that will not go away if you decide to switch companies or if something happens to the system that you are using.

3. A blog- it does not need to be fancy, but you do need one. You can use any program you feel comfortable with. WordPress is the best but it also requires more time and technical skill to use than blogger or typepad.

4. A video camera- the kind does not matter you just need one since you must use video if you expect to get results with online network marketing. That is just a fact.

5. A linkedin account- linkedin has a higher percentage of people with more money and more professionals, many of whom make great leaders and customers.

6. Skype- It’s free and it’s one of the best ways to call and communicate with people internationally, plus video calls are great for more intimate connections with people long distance.

7. Three-way calling- it’s free on cell phones and yes you need to use it and use it often.

8. A webinar service- you can get a free one like anymeeting.com or you can pay for one.

9. Patience- building your network marketing business online will not happen fast. If you want things to happen fast then you need to schedule in home meetings and make lots of phone calls, that is the reality of how things work.

10. An Hour a Day- While it will not and should not take you a lot of time you do have to commit to spending an hour a day working on your online presence in order to be effective.

What do you not need? What things are a total waste of your time as a network marketer?

1. A fancy blog- you need a blog but you do not need a fancy one and no you should not spend money getting it created at least not until you are already generating your own leads and making money online.

2. A lot of money- yes it’s true you don’t need tons of money. You can do everything you need to do with less than $50 a month. That said it is not free since you will need to pay for your autoresponder and a few other things.

3. Multiple blogs or websites- It is too easy to get carried away creating a lot of websites and they aren’t necessary. As long as you have one blog and one capture page that is all you need.

4. A twitter account- I know this may be controversial but after nearly four years on twitter myself, I’ve stopped spending much time there because quite frankly I’m not convinced it’s the best usage of time for most network marketers.

5. Fancy videos- in fact it’s better if your videos are kept simple

6. A personal business or product based website- a lot of companies don’t allow them anyway but even if they do as long as you have some kind of simple capture page or online system that markets your company or opportunity you don’t need anything else. I had one with my former network marketing company and over the long term it really didn’t pay off.

7. A squidoo account- I have used this quite a bit and while yes I have generated leads and sign ups my experience has been that it works better for affiliate marketing which is a totally different business model.

8. Lots of articles posted to article directories- I’ve been there done that with this too and it really isn’t worth your time. Yes writing articles can work but really only when you get your articles published in unique and highly trafficked magazines, ezines and newspapers.

9. Posting on free classified ad sites. Yes there may be a few exceptions but my experience has been that for the most part doing this does not work.

10. Your own 800 number. Nowadays nearly everyone has long distance on their cell phone and so you don’t need one of these for online marketing.

Succeeding with Online MLM can be a challenge. Many people dive into it only to discover that it is more work than they thought. One of the keys to making it work for you is to be consistent. However, it can be confusing to know what action steps to take. Here are three things to do every day to ensure your online MLM success.

1. Connect with at least three new people per day. These can be leads that you generate online and then call, or they can be people you chat with on facebook or people that you communicate with via email, skype or some other direct method. However the communication must go both ways. That is to say you can’t just send out a bunch of emails and count it.

2. Post at least one new piece of content per day. This can be a video, blog post, article or other content piece. It works best to create a large amount of content for a few hours each week and then post one piece per day. This avoids people being overwhelmed and still keeps you in their mind since they see new things from you every day.

3. Read and work on yourself every day. Believe that you can succeed and that the law of attraction will work for you. Part of online MLM success is not just taking the necessary actions but also believing that it works and that it will work for you.

1. It is not a magic pill. You must realize that you will still have to work your business even when doing it online. Taking your MLM business online will not solve all your problems or make an unsuccessful business successful. In fact, it may cause even more problems in your business and increase your failure rate, at least in the beginning.

2. You cannot market your Online MLM business exclusively for free. This is a myth that many people have and it simply is not true. You will have to invest in auto responders, web hosting and some advertising.

5. Social Media- done properly twitter, facebook and other social networking sites can give you more free leads than you know what to do with and can explode your business. Learn to embrace these sites and offer insane value and you will create a following that will be amazing and powerful.
